So my question is, who needs the playoffs? last year the boys worked their butt off to get there only to be dispatched in four games. and this year they will have to work just as hard. and after taking a look at the roster i think its time to dump anyone over 30 and let a young coach run with a young team for 2-3 years to see what happens.

here's a list of the players on the roster over 30 and luckily all but Conklin, Brewer, and McDonald are UFA's after this year"
Brewer (30)
Weaver (31)
McDonald (32)
Mason (33)
Conklin (33)
Kariya (35)
Sydor (37)
Tkachuk (37)

there are also several RFA's and UFA's for the upcoming offseason:
Steen (25)
Perron (21)
Winchester (28)
Janssen (25)
King (25)
Johnson (21)
Colaiacovo (27)

so i say that JD and the gang be aggressive about moving as many of the older guys as possible along with Colaiacovo and Steen for forward prospects and draft picks. this opens spots for the likes of Eller, Drazenovic, and Junland to come up and play now and then fill the other holes with bodies from AHL, thus leaving room next year for Pietrangelo, Rundblad, Cole, McRae, Palushaj, Shattock and any others to compete.

plus there are still rumors out there that the Blues might be interested in pursuing Kovalchuk in free agency and also have a shot at trading for Kari Lehtonen (recently ousted due to injury in Atlanta).

so the bigger question is what do all of you think the blues should do for the remainder of the season? playoff push or start anew with Payne?

Why move Steen? He's a guy who had shown potential in the past and seems to be coming around very nicely, this is a guy we need to keep. I've been calling for flushing the old guys and bringing along the youngsters for a year and a half, but I'd also keep Steen.

Brewer will have one year remaining, which puts him squarely into buyout territory.

In order to handle the upcoming logjam on defense, I think the Blues need to open up two slots this summer.  Saying goodbye to Brewer and either Weaver or Colaiacovo would accomplish that.  That would give some prime competition to Tranny, Strachan, and Junland, while opening up room in Peoria for the likes of Cole and Rundblad.

Kovalchuk, really?  Really?  Why oh why would we lock ourselves up w/that kind of money? lol  I would love it if it happened and everything came up roses, but come on, right, like that is gonna happen. lol

Let's just keep the gang we have and hope for a Stanley cup Roll Eyes, how about we go the route of the Penguins and remain to be the laughing stock for years.  I don't care as long as it is still interesting to watch. Wink

why are these mutually exclusive?  let's see how he does pushing a team that's fighting against embarrassment for the rest of the year, dump all the turds in the offseason, and give him a fresh start next year.
