If true, that surprises me.  I thought he'd have some trade value.

Really? 4m+ for a guy that is hurt all the time, scored something like 15pts in 3 years, and was benched on more than one occasion for MIKE WEAVER.

He has trade value--as in,"I'll trade you your awful contract for my even-worse-contract."

the only possible trade would have been mckee's terrible contract for briere's terrible contract.  no thanks.  I'll take the cheaper buyout.

Obviously, I was wrong.  But McKee played 66 and 69 games the last two years, and he and Jackman were the best defenders on the ice during the brief playoff appearance.

McKee will sign somewhere, and may end up making more money this year than he would have without the buyout.  In the meantime, his departure (along with Woywitka's) means that the door is wide open for Tranny to make the club.

I think we should start the obligatory "Keep Bumping this Thread Until Brewer is Bought Out." LOL  Then we would have one place to update each and every game day with his terrible play (not to mention any time we are annoyed he is still here LOL), and his tendancies to fellate Murray would make that thread super long.  For some reason the Blues fucking love that guy?

By page 2, the thread would be too heavy for Brewer to pick up.

If I could have picked one player to buy out, I'd have chosen Brewer.  But since he has two years left, the cap hit would be spread over four.

Brewer buyout linky

Since the Blues are not on the cusp of Cup contention, better to get Brewer's contract paid for as quickly as possible.  I'd rather have his contract completely off the books in June 2011 than drag it out.  And if he can't play again, insurance should pay most of the actual salary, which is better for the team's bottom line.

Eklund Jay McKee interest already from Buffalo, Toronto, Atlanta, NYI, and Pitt. The Shot Block Machine

so, if we offered to pay as much of his salary as we are now with the buyout, we couldn't have gotten anything via trade?  really?

Pitt would only sign him if they can get him for less than what scuderi is asking for (probably 3-3.5 million).  No way would they have traded for him unless he was on a contract of like 2 million.

From the other teams perspectives....even if we were paying as much of his salary as we are now with the buyout, they still didn't think he was worth giving up anything for and I think that makes pretty good sense.

Ok thank you for the link.  Doesn't the Leafs owe us a favor, they could take on Brewers cap hit for the next couple of years. Wink

I guess I was forgetting the possibility that he may not be able to play I mean take the ice next season.  We all already know that he can't play.
