The location of the ice, doesn't make sense.  You arn't going to be able to see much from anywhere, especially the seats from behind home plate.

maybe they're going to put bleachers right up on it?  if not, you're right.  but then again, i don't see any "good" way to orient it in a baseball stadium.  baseball is a triangle, like the symbol for the homosexuality it embraces.  at least football is a rectangle, like the ice for hockey.

I have not heard or read anywhere that they will be putting bleachers near the ice surface.  That would actually create a bigger visibility problem imo.

I really want to go to this game.

I plan on going if I'm able to get tickets.  It's a 4-hour drive from here.  The 1st is on a Thursday next year.

Putting the rink in the outfield is great... if the idea is to keep as many people as possible as far away from the ice as possible.

I think they'd be better off having the rink extend from home plate to second base, and then setting up video boards on the outfield grass for the bleacher bums.

I imagine the pitcher's mound might pose a logistical challenge.   ;D

Also, wouldn't a 200' rink extend pretty well out to mid-centerfield?

A couple guys with shovels can take care of the mound.  They used to do that for football games in San Francisco and San Diego, and they still do it in Oakland.  The bigger concern would be the natural slope of the field -- the infield sits a little higher than the area outside the foul lines.  IIRC, the Buffalo crew had to put a pretty hefty layer of sand under the rink to level out a similar slope on the football field.

Sixty feet from the mound to home plate, so 120 feet from home to second... yeah, one of the goals would be in short center.  That's much better than the red line sitting there.

What is the big deal about the game being played outside.....?

The atmosphere at the game last year was incredible.  You could sense it through the TV.  Just seemed really cool.

I went to 30 games last year......I am not sure I want to go to an out door game........I like my new seats....if you want to have the best hockey experience of your life....buy the Club seats and drink atleast 10 beers.....GAME ON

We must do an EST Club seat night.....usually thee are games where they sel them for 75$......well worth it...drink seven bers and its like you went for free

Yeah the pens played in that game and won, but they won alot of other games too.  This was a novelty and all, but in the grand SCHEME of things it wasn't that great.

While it would be cool to attend a Winter Classic game...I just can't bring myself to watch the Hawks and the Wings @ Wrigley.  There is just something "wrong" with that.
