Title: Winter Classic Post by: Steve Levy Sucks on July 23, 2008, 06:53:09 AM The location of the ice, doesn't make sense. You arn't going to be able to see much from anywhere, especially the seats from behind home plate.

then again, i'm clearly not as smart as bettman, what do i know? Title: Re: Winter Classic Post by: Hollywood on July 23, 2008, 07:38:54 AM Um, is it possible that that is not where the ice is going? Those boards are not even straight.

I have not heard or read anywhere that they will be putting bleachers near the ice surface. That would actually create a bigger visibility problem imo. Title: Re: Winter Classic Post by: Hollywood on July 23, 2008, 07:42:50 AM Is that game being played in CHI or DET? I forget.

I guess it could still change according this article Quote On a day fans got a view of the proposed rink layout at Wrigley Field for a Red Wings-Blackhawks game in January, they also got a taste of the rhetoric to come. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080723/SPORTS0103/807230387/1004/SPORTS (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080723/SPORTS0103/807230387/1004/SPORTS) Title: Re: Winter Classic Post by: Hollywood on July 23, 2008, 08:21:19 AM I really want to go to this game.

The 1st is on a Thursday next year. Title: Re: Winter Classic Post by: TC on July 23, 2008, 10:38:59 AM I really want to go to this game. this.Title: Re: Winter Classic Post by: MSU Bleeds Blue on July 23, 2008, 12:13:57 PM Putting the rink in the outfield is great... if the idea is to keep as many people as possible as far away from the ice as possible.
I think they'd be better off having the rink extend from home plate to second base, and then setting up video boards on the outfield grass for the bleacher bums. I think they'd be better off having the rink extend from home plate to second base, and then setting up video boards on the outfield grass for the bleacher bums. I imagine the pitcher's mound might pose a logistical challenge. ;D Also, wouldn't a 200' rink extend pretty well out to mid-centerfield? I agree with your statement that a "vertical" arrangement would probably be more viewer-friendly. I agree with your statement that a "vertical" arrangement would probably be more viewer-friendly. A couple guys with shovels can take care of the mound. They used to do that for football games in San Francisco and San Diego, and they still do it in Oakland. The bigger concern would be the natural slope of the field -- the infield sits a little higher than the area outside the foul lines. IIRC, the Buffalo crew had to put a pretty hefty layer of sand under the rink to level out a similar slope on the football field. Sixty feet from the mound to home plate, so 120 feet from home to second... yeah, one of the goals would be in short center. That's much better than the red line sitting there. Boring game??????? if you thought it was exciting then you bought into the hype. it was a boring game. flat out. <Pleau> Was it an historic game, what with being outside and everything? -- Yes Did it feature one of the premier young stars in the league? -- Yes Did it have a fantastic shootout finish with the winning goal scored by said young star? -- Yes Was it a low scoring affair with limited scoring chances due to the sticky ice? -- Yes Did it lag in the middle when both teams adopted the strategy of "chip it in and hope for the best?" -- Yes Was it annoying to have to sit through all of the delays to repair the shitty ice? -- Yes Do I think it was even in the top 10 of most exciting games last year? -- No </Pleau> Yeah the pens played in that game and won, but they won alot of other games too. This was a novelty and all, but in the grand SCHEME of things it wasn't that great. Title: Re: Winter Classic Post by: sanscrit on July 24, 2008, 07:27:02 AM Alright, what exactly is a 'club seat' there? its a seat section in the lower bowl where you get unlimited free beer and food. Title: Re: Winter Classic Post by: Nsane2Bme on July 24, 2008, 11:00:50 AM While it would be cool to attend a Winter Classic game...I just can't bring myself to watch the Hawks and the Wings @ Wrigley. There is just something "wrong" with that.
