Title: e67 News: Some Things Are Hard To Realize

Some Things Are Hard To Realize (http://est1967.com/content/view/70/)
That's exactly it, kodos. Regardless of the fact that I've ranted into the multi-paragraph tomes on this subject before, people always seem to forget and/or remember/believe what they want.

Yes, this is Curt's site to do with as he pleases. Yes, we could just leave and no longer lurk when posting became a chore rather than fun. But you have to understand that the people that have left this site for other fora are not people that posted a couple hundred relevant comments and decided it wasn't for them, we're talking about people that have spent literally years of their life and well into five figures of posts here. These are the people that made this site successful to begin with. The people that registered here and stayed after the initial group established this site only did so because of these posters, their insights, witty comments, and the inside jokes we created.

Through this site - which brought together Blues fans from around the country, let alone around the world - we organized several get-togethers before games or at bars to watch games. Some of us have made good friends with people we met on this board, and an even greater number of people we consider friends even though we have never truly met.

When this site and those that run it made a string of decisions that not only targeted the behavior that made the site so successful but catered to people that had just arrived with the idea of making this site something it was never intended to be, it pushed away some of those people that had become legend here - some of the first people with custom titles. Then later, the seemingly random editing of post content and banning of long-time users at the whim of whining relative n00bs drove away the rest of us. Who would want to be an active part of a site who's owner will edit post content if he doesn't get a joke or doesn't think something said was funny? Who would want to stay where rules may be applied very inconsistently and randomly, giving the appearance of targeting specific users and/or some sort of witch hunt - wouldn't you wonder if you would be next? Who would want to post where their profile might be edited even though nothing that could be construed as offensive was there to begin with? Or how about lying (not telling the whole story is the same) to the general populace about why people leave?

When the powers that be at this site started getting a big head about this place is when it started changing. Making wide-sweeping generalizations and applying them relatively suddenly and seemingly retroactively to people and behavior that made this site fun and successful, trying to create an environment that could be considered moderately commercially successful and self-sufficient left the virtual corpses of highly regarded posters in its wake.

True, people that haven't been here that long don't care about any of this. The site is a place to talk about Blues hockey and as long as the team exists the site can have some flow to it with or without the founding fathers. But don't for one minute think that any of us wanted to be put in a position where it was necessary not only to leave but to try to create a place that is the way this place used to be. Things change, yes, but they didn't have to. It was a conscious process made by the powers that be here, and there are some of us that feel we have earned the right to bitch about it. Getting this site off the ground, keeping it alive over long periods without hockey, making it a fun place to visit on a daily basis - yes, we have earned the right to not be happy with the direction it has gone. We are not the ones that started making ego-driven claims about one site being better than any other site. We are not the ones that started editing content.

When you think that posters left because they are jerks, because they have a big head, or because they are on some power-trip, why don't you have a look at my sig and learn some history before you make wide-sweeping generalizations.

Speaking of which...it's too late for tonight's game...but who's up for an e67 boozefest sometime in the near future?  12/1 before the Chicago game?  12/26 before the Detroit game?  I would just need a few days' notice so I can buy my wife something before I abandon her with the kids for an entire evening.   :D

Just wait until I come into town and I'll stay home with your wife, but you're going to have to find a sitter.

Wouldn't you know it...she grew up in Michigan, and is by default a Wings fan...match made in heaven.

Just don't go infecting my boys with that nonsense.

And I'll arrange the sitter, but your ass is paying for it.

That's a loaded question.

I have no idea.  Her dad worked for GM for a couple hundred years...so probably not.

I have nothing to hide.  I will freely admit that.

You are a no good neo-con, Wings fan and I hate you for it.  But aside from that, you are actually a pretty decent guy.

I have defended you on more than one occasion to other posters and kept you from getting banned at LGB back when I was still allowed to post there.

Does it help our friendship that I send you pictures of my girlfriends pussy?

Every message board on the web loses and gains members over time...you just can't avoid it. People don't stick around forever. Those that leave either have things come up in their personal lives, or aren't allowed to post at work anymore, some do things that get themselves banned and some might just not want to do it anymore.

Sit back, relax, welcome new members, and wait for the draft.
